Rebuilding Habits

20260715 - Wednesday

It's still very hot where I am, which means my computer is not performing the best. There was about one week of milder weather before it all amped up again. I'm still on the job hunt. I've been feeling very demoralized, and so I've fallen out of a few wellness/hobby habits, which has only made the demoralized feeling worse. However, I've slowly caught up on my Japanese review cards and it does feel good to be back on track/close to on track with where I left off.

Web Browsing

⊳ I was going to add a blurb about a newish pixel art/cross stitch program, but then the creator said they used AI to make it... It's funny to me because where I saw it, on the cross stitch subreddit, the usual sentiment towards AI is that it sucks- but most of the comments on this person's post introducing the program were positive. I don't think I spend too much time on reddit, but I'll be making an effort to spend even less.

Craft Progress

I haven't been to the craft store lately, so I don't have a proper backing fabric for the kogin piece I showed last time or for the sashiko tote, which I finished stitching sometime last week-ish. I also ended up returning the Sashiko Sourcebook to the library without working on any other patterns from it. I'm a bit disappointed the craft isn't for me, but not disappointed enough to try and brute force my way through another piece. Either way, I think it was a good thing to have tried it and to know it's not for me, than to have not given it a go. I still want to try to improve with crochet, and to learn the very basics of knitting and machine knitting. I'm not sure if that'll happen this year.

I've made some progress on Empoleon, but again, I'm still not quite done. As much as I've been repeating myself, I am truly determined to have it done in the next two days.

On a separate-ish note, I've been brainstorming ways to maybe taking cross stitch/kogin/embroidery commissions, so I think I'll be needing to/trying to post more often and boost my site's visibility. I made a ko-fi page, if you're interested/able, but it might be a small while before I begin commissions for realsies.

Miscellaneous

I don't think I have anything else to say that I haven't spilled already, but it feels weird now to skip the misc. section. I've been thinking about applying for a masters and trying to pivot into a new career path. I like what I do, but getting a job in my field in a relatively rural area has been simply impossible. Has anyone reading this gone for a masters program? It seemed/seems so intimidating, no matter what field.
