20260603 - Wednesday
As I'm writing right now, the neighbors are chatting super loudly outside, but it's too hot to keep the window shut. We haven't met our neighbors yet, but there's been one person in particular who loves blasting their music from their car at full volume... Other than that, though, the new place is nice. We've been here long enough that we're changing the bedsheets for the first time, and I mentally wrote a haiku for it while I was stripping the sheets:
Comforter
comfort-her in this
wretched world
Well, anyways...
- ⊳ Al Jazeera: US university sells dead bodies to navy for Israeli military training. A horrific story that reminds me of the med-ethics courses I took back in college, and of that book Stiff. It's an older book about the different things that can happen to a body after donation. Usually, people aren't told the exact circumstances about where their body may end up, because it can change depending on what research is being done at the time a person dies (which can be way after they fill out the donation consent forms). But that doesn't mean informed consent isn't important, and I think it would be interesting to see a push towards more transparency.
- ⊳ NPR: EU strikes migration deal for more deportations and detention centers abroad.
- ⊳ Fontspace: Pokemon GB Font. Might use for my Empoleon cross stitch project, might not.

I posted about it on Sunday, but I recently added mutuals section to the blogroll page, and I created a reading page. I still have a Japanese studying page in progress, but I'm still not sure if/when I'll add it.
Crafts
I've been taking a bit of a break with the filet ancien project to instead work on the Empoleon cross stitch I started back in January. Unfortunately, I ended up restarting it on a new piece of fabric because I made a mistake I didn't want to go back on, and then, I accidentally spilled a small bit of coffee on the new piece. Fuck me dead. But it washed out very well and dried fast, so I've been able to keep chipping away at it. I've been taking photos of my progress everyday, which is something I was trying and failing to keep up with some other projects.
The previous version (left) with the one I'm currently stitching. I think the stitching on the newer one is much neater.
Japanese
毎日、私の猫さまがたくさん食べ物に食べました。猫さま、愛してるよ!何かペットをかっていますか?
Along with studying, I've been taking the prefectures quiz a bit more often just because I think it's good to know, and I've been pairing it with various NHK videos about them to try and really set the knowledge in; kind of like knowing Idaho is the potato state, or that Tennessee is where Dollywood is.
- ⊳ We got our cat some new furniture since there's a bit more space for it here, but it only arrived today & he's not used to any of it yet. He's not a shy boy, just precautious... Either way, he's cozy enough with the new apartment, so I'm sure he'll get used to the new furniture soon enough.
- ⊳ It's my birthday month! I'm not the happiest around my birthday, usually, but the past couple of years have been better than most. I've been applying to jobs recently, and I'm hoping to work sooner than later, but I definitely want my birthday off... Since I was laid off last summer as well, I'm not really sure if taking off work so soon after starting somewhere is seen as kosher here or not. Of course, there's a chance I could still be out of work this month... I don't want to consider that possibility at all, though...
- ⊳ I want to know what everyone else's time perception is like, because I always feel like the beginning half of the year flies by compared to the latter half. I'm not sure why, but it's something I noticed first back in high school. Does anyone else feel this way? I know my husband disagrees/feels the time a bit differently, so I want to know how everyone else sees it.
