20260528 - Thursday

I've pulled not one, but two all-nighters last week, and not on purpose. Lately, I've been struggling to feel tired and to act on the tiredness when I have it. I heard about closing your eyes and looking left and right repeatedly, though, which mimics REM sleep. It's been helping a bit.

Web Browsing

I know I just complained about weebs a couple of weeks ago...Such is life.

⊳ Le Monde du Sumo: How to read a banzuke?
⊳ r/Sumo: NHK Journeys in Japan. A summary of NHK coverage in Aomori Prefecture and its strong ties to sumo. The original reporting is no longer online (I don't think).
⊳ elliot sang again: Abolish Wasia. I think this video is interesting & useful because I've only heard about the "wasian meetups" thing this past Sunday, and I didn't have much of a reaction besides, like, what? Personally, I've never felt any sort of Asian or wasian solidarity growing up in a semi-rural place, and I haven't felt it much in the larger cities I've lived in, either. I have felt and have had meaningful conversations about being racialized in the U.S. very few times as an adult- part of that is my own hesitation in sharing my experiences, but the other part is a hesitation or lack of political awareness from others. This is something I feel I could harp on forever, but I don't think this blog is quite the right place for it.
⊳ Yokogao Mag: In Talk with Brandy Senki. I've been trying to find immersion material, and so far I like this band. They have a cute website, too. My favorite songs so far are Kids and Musica. Also if anyone has music recs, please leave them in my guestbook!

Craft Progress

filet ancien cross stitch project

I finally reached my 100th thread! Very close to done, but I haven't worked on it at all since moving.

Since I'm coming up on the end of this project, I've been looking at what other patterns I'd like to add to fill out this piece of linen. I'll have to do some measurements & see what could work, but for now I'd like to start a preliminary list of similarly-animal themed patterns with their approximate dimensions.

Book 3, p. 67: 35x150 and Book 5, p. 129: 215x55

Book 6, p. 71: 75x80, and Book 6, p.72: 70x70

Book 5 seems to have the most animal options, but a lot of them are more realisic than the birds & lions(?) in the pattern I'm working on. In the future, I'd also like to work on these patterns for pins/patches:

Book 5, pp. 76-79: 50x50

Japanese Progress

I've gotten a lot more studying this week. I'm not sure what spurred it on.
⊳ Tadoku: 日本の城
⊳ Tadoku: カラスと水さし ~イソップ物語より~
⊳ Tadoku: 羊飼いの男の子 ~イソップ物語より
⊳ Tadoku: キツネとツル〜イソップ物語より

In addition to reading, I also saw a forum post about Japanese movies, where someone recommended Kikujiro (1999). I haven't found a place to watch it yet, but I do want to remember it for later.

Reading

I've made very little progress on my 3 in-progress books from last time. I let Adjustment Day go for now, because it's the least interesting to me currently.

Miscellaneous

⊳ The move is still ongoing, but mostly done. Since we started sleeping in the new place, we're staring to find its errors that weren't apparent during the tour or lease signing. That's just the way it is.
⊳ I've picked up a different cross stitch project that I'm hoping to finish really quick and send off to a family friend... I have been slacking with it too, though.
